Our NSF GK-12 Fellowship program will support 10 graduate fellows for the 2012-13 school year.

The annual stipend is $30,000 plus tuition and fees (up to $15,000).

Current UCLA graduate students from the Life Sciences Division, Physical Sciences Division, and the School of Engineering and Applied Science are eligible to apply.

The 2012-2013 year will be the fifth and final year of our program.

Requirements:

PhD student, full-time
Advanced to candidacy by start of Fellowship (strongly preferred)
US citizen or permanent residence status
Flexible schedule (no classes, strongly preferred)

Although our program theme is the Environment of LA, you do not need to be an environmental scientist to participate in this program; however, you will need to design and implement at least one lesson relevant to the Environment of LA, broadly defined. See Expectations for more about this...

Our Fellows work in high school and middle school classrooms. For high school, the possible classes are physics, chemistry, biology, earth science, astronomy, marine biology, and/or environmental science. For middle school, possible classes are 6th earth science, 7th life science and/or health, or 8th physical science (chemistry, physics, astronomy). We do not have placements in math, computer science or psychology classes.

The 2012-2013 Fellowship will run from July 1, 2012 through June 30, 2013 (12 months). No concurrent Fellowships, TA-ships, RA-ships, or other UCLA employment are allowed for the entire duration of the fellowship, including the summer.
