How Far Can Lava Go ?- Lesson & Activity by Brittany Enzmann

Earth Science - 9th grade

Summary: The lesson teaches about volcanoes, magma, and lava flows.  The lesson covers lava composition, factors that affect flow, and risk to human settlements. In the activity, students learn how volume, viscosity, and slope affect the surface area that lava covers. Students also brainstorm solutions to lava flow problems, and will understand how the properties of lava are applicable to other liquids.
