The Perils of Space: An introduction to Space Weather.

We are not yet living like the Jetson's, but you'd probably be surprised on how much of our daily lives depend on space age technology - from communication, navigation, and weather forecasting. Even our power systems and airline industries are now susceptible to the weather of space. This course will take you on a tour showing you how our variable sun can impact us here on Earth.

Course Syllabus

The TA for ESS 7 is Mike Hartinger, a graduate student in Space Physics. His office is next to mine Geology 6705. His office hours are W 11 to 1. His email is mhartinger@igpp.ucla.edu. Feel free to see him with regards to assignments, Moodle Quizzes, or general questions about Space Weather.

Extra Credit Opportunities: Can earn up to 5% extra credit for attending space related seminars and events on campus. Every Wednesday night at 7pm there is a planetarium show (http://www.astro.ucla.edu/planetarium/) and each week there is usually a space related seminar. I'll email announcements about upcoming seminars. You can also earn 1 point by visiting me during office hours. If you aren't able to make office hours make an appointment.

I'll also be showing two one-hour videos during 10th week and Finals week. One extra credit point each. I'll announce the showtimes in class.
